Details

Florfenicol is a fluorinated derivative of thiamphenicol. Florfenicol inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to ribosome 50S and 70S subunits. Florfenicol is used as an antibacterial.

By closely binding to the 50S subunit on the bacterial ribosome, flurphenicol hinders the peptide transfer reaction of peptidyl transferase, thereby inhibiting the extension of the peptide chain. At the same time, it selectively acted on the receptor of the 70S nucleosome that constituted the bacterial cell, altered and interfered the function of peptidyl transferase, thereby double interfered the bacterial protein synthesis. Antibiotic drugs, by inhibiting the activity of peptiacyltransferase, produce a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity, including a variety of gram-positive and negative bacteria
